Biography
Ben van Gastel is a Dutch guitarist, keyboardist and composer, best known as the founder and creative driving force behind the progressive rock band Sylvium. The project began as his solo instrumental work, releasing the debut EP/album “Purified” independently in early 2012 with a blend of progressive, post-rock and ambient music. Sylvium grew into a full band in 2013, and that year released its first full-length album, “The Gift of Anxiety,” on the FREIA Music label, followed later by “Waiting for the Noise.” Within the band, van Gastel handles guitars and keyboards, and his stated aim is to create music of uncompromising, self-willed character that nonetheless remains accessible to a broad audience, refusing to be confined to a single sub-genre label.
