Biography

Florian Magnus Maier, known professionally as Morean, is a German composer, guitarist and vocalist born in 1973 in Munich and now based in Rotterdam, Netherlands. After an early career as a flamenco guitarist (he studied with Paco Pena), he turned to classical composition under Klaas de Vries at the Rotterdam Conservatory, earning a BA cum laude in 2001 and winning awards including the Matthijs Vermeulen Prize. He works across contemporary classical, chamber and orchestral music as well as extreme metal, and describes himself primarily as a composer.

In metal he is best known as the vocalist and lyricist of Dark Fortress (since 2007) and as guitarist/vocalist in the progressive death metal supergroup Alkaloid, alongside his own project Noneuclid and the crossover ensemble The Hungry Gods.
