Biography
Mendel bij de Leij is a guitarist, composer and mixing/mastering engineer from the Netherlands, best known as the former guitarist of the death metal band Aborted, with whom he played from 2012 to 2019 after being introduced to the band through the side project System Divide. His playing draws on a wide range of influences, from Bach and Muse to neo-classical and progressive metal guitarists such as Yngwie Malmsteen, Michael Romeo and Tosin Abasi.
Since leaving Aborted, he has focused on his instrumental solo project “Mendel” (progressive metal records including Oblivion, Equilibrium and Universal Omega), on film scoring (a three-time “Best Film Score” winner at the 48 Hour Film Project awards), and on his work as a mixing and mastering engineer through MbdL Productions / Mendel Audio, collaborating with labels such as Season of Mist and Listenable and bands including Severe Torture, Haliphron and Nader Sadek.
