Biography

Rutger van Noordenburg is a Dutch metal guitarist based in Amersfoort, the Netherlands. Though classically trained, he is known as a “metal to the bone” lead player active across the Dutch death, thrash and progressive metal scenes. He founded the death/thrash band Shinigami in late 2014, teaming up with former Orphanage vocalist George Oosthoek; the band has released material such as the EP “The Arcane Order” and toured Japan, Poland and the Netherlands. He has also performed with the death/black metal group Bleeding Gods (signed to Nuclear Blast) and the project Bloodphemy.

From 2019 to 2025 he served as lead guitarist for the long-running Dutch progressive death metal band Pestilence, recording the full-length “Exitivm” (2021) before the two parted ways. He is a HESU Amplification endorsed artist.
